Optersoft’s Python packages
What we build in Python, and where to get it. The ones on PyPI install as anything does; the ones that are not are on this host’s own package index, python.optersoft.com/simple/, which uv and pip read with no account and no credentials.
# every project on the index, as a resolver reads it $ curl https://python.optersoft.com/simple/

Use the index
A PEP 503 simple index: one page per project at /simple/<project>/, every file linked with its sha256, its Requires-Python, and the wheel’s metadata beside it, so a resolver reads the dependencies without downloading the wheel. Our dependencies themselves come from PyPI.
uv, in pyproject.toml
[[tool.uv.index]] name = "optersoft" url = "https://python.optersoft.com/simple/" explicit = true [tool.uv.sources] make-rust = { index = "optersoft" }
explicit = true: only the packages you name come from here; everything else stays on PyPI.
uv pip
# uv looks at an --extra-index-url FIRST, and stops at the first that has a name $ uv pip install --extra-index-url https://python.optersoft.com/simple/ make-rust
Released versions only
No .dev builds and no local versions -- what PyPI would accept.
A file never changes
Once a filename is published its bytes are fixed: a fix is a new version, never a new upload.
Nothing to sign in to
Plain HTTPS, readable from any origin. No account, no token, no rate limit of ours.
⚠ pip has no way to pin a name to one index: pip install --extra-index-url takes the highest version from either, so a name that is not on PyPI could be claimed there. Use uv’s explicit index, or pass this one as pip’s only --index-url with --no-deps. Why uv is safe here.
